I would like to take this opportunity to forewarn those who plan to make a trip to China to take at least $300 extra just to take care of the local and national guides and drivers. Ignore the government advice that tips are not permitted in China. On the contrary, the guides have become a bunch of unsupervised, spoiled kids who are more demanding than any other of their counterparts in the world.
