Mayor Bradley’s Leadership
Mayor Bradley’s initial, intemperate remarks immediately following the King verdict were like throwing a Molotov cocktail into a tinder-dry forest. He then followed those remarks with more inflammatory rhetoric later that evening. That, coupled with the philosophical direction that has been heaped onto the LAPD by the mayor’s appointees to the Police Commission and their ACLU chairman, created a situation that sent a signal, loud and clear, to those who have little respect for the rule of law that an “expression of their frustration and outrage” would be tolerated. Bradley’s leadership has not only been found wanting, it has proven a disaster. He has alienated the many disparate groups in this once great city. If this city is to pull itself together, Bradley must resign. Now.
