The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and METROLINK will hold an open house tonight in Chatsworth to discuss the new commuter train and the Chatsworth Train Station. The open house will be held at Germain Street Elementary School, 20730 Germain St., in Chatsworth from 4 to 8 p.m.

“People can come in and talk one-on-one about fares, times of trains, destinations” and safety issues for passengers and motorists, LACTC spokesman Tim Galbraith said.

Those who attend will also learn about the design of the Chatsworth Train Station, “what the end product will look like,” Galbraith said.

The station, which will be built just east of Canoga Avenue at Devonshire Street, is scheduled to be completed in October.

“We wanted to let people know that the service is coming in October,” Galbraith said. “Hopefully people will get the idea about the service and use it.”

The double-decker trains are air-conditioned and have restrooms on board. A trip from Chatsworth to downtown Los Angeles will take 45 minutes, Galbraith said.

The Chatsworth station will be part of a commuter train service that will cover 400 miles in five Southern California counties.
