Blyleven Gives Up Seven Runs, 11 Hits but Still Wins Second Triple-A Start

Bert Blyleven was hit much harder in his second Triple-A start than his first but still got the victory when the Edmonton Trappers defeated the Portland Beavers, 11-7, in the opening game of a Pacific Coast League doubleheader.

In 5 2/3 innings, Blyleven gave up seven runs (all earned), 11 hits (including a second-inning home run by Rob Nelson), walked one and struck out two against the Minnesota Twins’ affiliate.

“I was happy I went into the sixth inning, but not real happy with my performance as far as location,” said Blyleven, 41.

Blyleven is attempting to return to the Angels after missing all of last season following shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. He had allowed five hits and one run over six innings in his first Triple-A appearance Friday.
