SAN DIEGO : Warning Issued on Phone Scam

A phone scam using the name of “San Diego Fire Fighters” to seek donations for an arson hot line and a neighborhood cleanup program prompted authorities Wednesday to warn the public to be on guard for the illegitimate solicitors.

San Diego police detectives are investigating two men who have identified themselves to prospective donors as Bob Foster and Dan Stillman, authorities said. The suspects said they could be reached at their offices on El Cajon Boulevard by dialing 286-3374.

To solicit funds, one man claimed he was organizing a variety show at the San Diego Hilton to benefit the “We Tip Organization” for the local arson hot line, authorities said. In another case, the caller claimed to be seeking donations to organize and sponsor 10 children to complete a “Neighborhood Cleanup.”
