City officials have agreed to contribute more than $27,000 to local cultural arts pursuits, including featured appearances by violinist Oleh Krysa at three concerts with the Orange County Symphony of Garden Grove in November.

The symphony is receiving $11,765, as is the Garden Grove Assn. for the Arts, which manages the Village Green Cultural Arts Complex. Village Green officials plan to install an automated telephone system at the Gem Theatre with their share of the money.

The Garden Grove Community Theatre at Eastgate Park will receive $3,750 for a new air-conditioning system to replace a unit that reportedly often falters in the 72-seat theater.

Symphony officials say they expect a total of about 3,500 people to attend the three Garden Grove concerts featuring Krysa, of New York. The series will include a concert for children on Nov. 11, a regular subscription concert on Nov. 14 and a recital on Nov. 15.

Orchestra General Manager Yaakov Dvir-Djerassi said Thursday that ticket sales will account for only about 40% of the cost of $35,000 for putting on the concerts. The city’s contribution will help defray remaining expenses, he said.

Dvir-Djerassi said Krysa is a violinist of world renown who is in great demand with major orchestras.

The money for the cultural arts events came from fees paid by developers on projects valued at $500,000 or more, officials said, and was collected before July 1, 1991. Money received from that source since that time has been frozen pending the outcome of a lawsuit challenging the tax, officials said.
