BREA : Parade, Picnic Mark City’s 75th Birthday

Share

Brea will continue its yearlong celebration of its 75th anniversary with a “Diamond Jubilee” parade and picnic Saturday.

Events will begin at 10 a.m. when the parade begins on Birch Street, in front of the Brea Marketplace. There will be more than 150 entries in the hourlong march, including floats, bands, drill teams, clowns, classic cars and representatives of community groups.

After the parade, which will last about 1 1/2 hours, people are invited to City Hall Park for a picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Picnickers may either bring their own food or buy it at the park. Big band music will be provided by the Leon Guide Band, and the sounds of the 1950s will be supplied by the Rockadiles.

For children, there will be pony rides, an arts and crafts table and games arranged by local Girl Scout troops.

Brea became a city in February, 1917. It was the eighth city in Orange County to incorporate, said Brian Saul, a member of the town’s historical society.

“The parade and picnic are a way Brea can celebrate what it has achieved,” said Ret Wixted, Brea’s community services director.
