A briefcase from actor Dan Aykroyd, bathrobes from Ivana Trump and a belt buckle from aviator Chuck Yeager were among gifts President Bush kept last year, his financial report showed Thursday.

Bush’s blind trust, where he put his assets when he became vice president in 1981, rose in value by $55,000, to $1.29 million, according to his annual disclosure report released by the White House.

In addition to the blind trust, Bush listed among his assets $74,000 in three banks and the White House credit union. That included $52,000 in Ocean National Bank of Kennebunkport, Me., up from $8,000 a year earlier. His White House credit union account went from $1,000 to $2,000.

White House spokeswoman Judy Smith said the infusion of cash was needed to help pay for repairs to Bush’s vacation home in Kennebunkport, which was battered by a storm last year.

The Bushes kept $21,329 worth of gifts from 75 individuals, compared to gifts worth $22,138 from 84 donors the year before, the form showed.

Among the gifts:

--A $265 briefcase from Aykroyd.

--Eight neckties worth $558 and two scarves worth $268 from bandleader Lionel Hampton.

--A $1,245 handbag from designer Judith Leiber for Barbara Bush, the most expensive gift the Bushes kept.

--Three bathrobes and two sweat shirts valued at $290 from Ivana Trump.

--A $225 belt buckle from Yeager.

--Two porcelain figurines worth $150 from the wife of German Chancellor Helmut Kohl.

--Hair products and a golf putter worth $143 from Rep. Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.).

A Maine neighbor, Walter Rodiger, purchased a $400 membership at the Arundel Beach Club in Kennebunkport for Bush.

The President is required to report any gifts valued at more than $100 that he keeps. Gifts he does not keep go to the National Archives or his presidential library. Bush also can send gifts he receives to others but such gifts do not have to be reported.

The value of gifts is determined by the White House gift office, which consults with private appraisers and considers such factors as the rarity of the gift, Smith said.

Vice President Dan Quayle, meanwhile, reported assets valued at $993,017 to $2.37 million and one liability: a mortgage of up to $250,000. Quayle and his wife, Marilyn, reported receiving $19,537 worth of gifts.
