Countywide : State Parks Agency to Move Offices

Share

The state Department of Parks and Recreation will move its district headquarters in July from an office park along the Ventura Freeway to the more natural surroundings of Malibu Creek State Park, officials have announced.

Hunter House, a ranch house within the park, will be the new headquarters for the 10 administrative employees of the agency’s Santa Monica Mountains district, who now occupy leased space in Newbury Park.

Daniel C. Preece, deputy regional director for the parks department, said the move will save about $40,000 in yearly rent and reflects impending budget cuts for the next fiscal year.

Hunter House now is used by the mountains education program of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, another state parks agency. The conservancy, facing budget problems of its own, will be moving staff to its headquarters in Solstice Canyon Park in Malibu. But Preece said a mountains information hot line, which helps plan hikes and other outings for callers to 1-800-533-PARK, will continue to operate from Hunter House.
