Share

The Memorial Day weekend Mt. Wilson Trail Race, first held in 1908, will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, from Baldwin Avenue and Kersting Court.

About 250 runners, ages 10 to 60, will head uphill on city streets to the trail, a dirt path less than four feet wide and with an elevation gain of 2,000 feet.

Runners will turn around at Orchard Camp and return to the starting point of the 8.2-mile course.

No more runners than those already registered may participate for safety reasons, but the public may be at the start-finish point of the race.

The record was set in 1988 by Allan Reynolds, who finished in 56 minutes, 20 seconds. The event is sponsored by the city’s Recreation Department.
