Down-to-Earth Domestic Vacations : One is a motor-coach trip that begins in Chicago, another a rail journey to Oregon.

Among the seemingly endless stream of tour notices that I receive on travel to the various high-profile domestic destinations, it’s refreshing to occasionally find something different. Something like “Discover Wisconsin.”

This nine-day air and motor-coach tour offered by Corliss Tours begins with two days in Chicago, then continues through Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Oshkosh and its extensive air museum, the Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo and the Circus Museum, plus other stops and attractions.

The tour leaves June 5 and is priced at $1,099 per person, double occupancy, with first-class or deluxe hotels, lots of sightseeing that includes brewery and cheese factory tours, plus five meals and all admissions. For more information, contact Corliss Tours at (800) 456-5717 or any travel agent.

Something different is also offered in a five-day rail tour to Ashland, Ore., and its noted Shakespeare Festival. A package for mature travelers organized jointly by Calico Tours and California Discovery Tours, includes three plays--Shakespeare’s “Henry VI” and “As You Like It,” and “The Playboy of the Western World” by Synge.

The trip, which also includes a tour of Crater Lake National Park and accommodations at Bards Inn, departs from Los Angeles June 29 and returns July 3. Price is $539 per person, double. For more information, contact Calico Tours at (310) 478-5865 or California Discovery Tours at (800) 338-3222.

Here’s another way to see and enjoy Ohio’s big AmeriFlora Festival in Columbus at a good senior rate--provided you are flexible in your time schedule.

Westward Travel of Gardena is working with senior groups on a 17-day cross-country motor-coach tour itinerary that includes Columbus and AmeriFlora as one of many attractions.

Cost of the trip is $1,265 per person, double, including accommodations, five meals and entry fees, taxes and baggage handling. For more information, call Westward Travel at (800) 537-4602.

If you’re headed to France to see the new Euro Disneyland, you may want to check out the special package for mature travelers offered by the American Association of Retired Persons.

There’s a new address for the Evergreen/Travel Club, which for almost 10 years has been offering modestly priced bed and breakfast accommodations for mature travelers. There are now more than 500 B&B; locations across the country.

Evergreen operates at two levels--one for “host” travelers who can offer bed and breakfast rooms for others in their own homes, and another for “non-host” travelers who want to stay at B&Bs; but cannot offer accommodations themselves.

Membership is $40 a year for singles, $50 for couples (one of whom must be age 50 or over).

The difference in membership comes in the cost for the accommodations while traveling. Non-host mature travelers pay $18 a night single, $24 for two. Those who also host at home pay $10 for a single, $15 double.

For more information, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Evergreen/Travel Club, 404 N. Galena Ave., Dixon, Ill. 61021.
