Only When I Laugh: Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams tickled ribs and wallets, raising about $5.4 million in pledges as hosts of Saturday night’s “Comic Relief V,” the fund-raiser for the homeless broadcast live on HBO from Universal Amphitheatre. Bob Zmuda, president and founder of Comic Relief, said the pledges were still being totaled as of Sunday morning. The show’s record fund-raising effort was $5.8 million in 1990. A special emergency relief donation of $230,000 was given to the City of Los Angeles to help rebuilding efforts after the riots. The money raised by Comic Relief goes to homeless people in 23 cities across America.
