THOUSAND OAKS : Homeowners File Claim Over Flooding

Share

A group of North Ranch homeowners has filed a $500,000 claim against Thousand Oaks, asking the city to pay for flood damage to their homes from a rainstorm in January.

Costs of cleaning up the damage from the storm have already reached about $17,251, according to a letter from Patrician Price, president of the North Ranch Village Homeowners Assn.

Heavy rains caused flooding and mud damage to several homes, according to Price’s letter.

She could not be reached for comment.

Public Works Director John Clement said the city-owned storm drains in North Ranch became plugged with boulders that were dislodged during the heavy rains.

Damage from the unusually strong rainstorms this year has resulted in at least two large claims against the city.

In March, the owners of Stagecoach Liquors in Newbury Park filed a claim for $175,000 against the city after drains plugged up and caused flooding.

The claim was rejected.
