“A” PARTY: It may be the most literate pickup band in history: Stephen King on rhythm guitar, Dave Barry on lead guitar and Robert Fulghum on mandocello, with Matt Groening and Roy Blount as backup singers. They call themselves the Rock Bottom Remainders, and their debut performance at a nearby club should be the convention’s hippest party. . . . “I’ve been practicing at the local karaoke bar,” says Amy Tan, above, one of three Remainderettes. Tan will sing lead on one song, harmonize on another “and for the rest I’ve got a bunch of hand-clapping ooh-oohs and da-doo-ron-rons.”
