Second C-17 Takes Flight: McDonnell Douglas flew its second C-17 cargo jet Friday from its production plant in Long Beach to Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert. The aircraft, which is the first of the 120 production aircraft planned by the Air Force, was several months late in making its inaugural flight after numerous fuel leaks developed in its wings. A test model C-17 first flew last October and has completed 66 flights.
