LOS ANGELES : Another $2.5 Million OKd to Fight Leaks in Subways

Share

County transit officials Monday authorized another $2.5 million to battle water leaks that have plagued downtown subway stations on the Metro Red and Blue lines, bringing the total cost of fighting the leaks to nearly $5 million.

The latest expenditure, approved by the Rail Construction Corp., will go for the injection of more chemical grout into porous concrete station and tunnel walls to seal holes in plastic liners designed to keep water--and explosive gases--out of the transit system.

RCC board members also ordered workers to use epoxy paint to cover the concrete walls and ceilings that have become crusted and stained because of the leaks. Painting costs are to be included in the $2.5 million that was approved Monday.
