ANAHEIM : Police Link Man to Series of Robberies
A man arrested Wednesday after he allegedly robbed two liquor stores and then led police on a chase that ended in an apartment complex was identified Thursday as Sevang Sing, a 29-year-old transient.
Sing is believed to be responsible for at least 19 commercial armed robberies in Anaheim since May 2, Police Lt. Craig Hunter said.
About 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, an attempted robbery was reported at a liquor store at 1112 N. Brookhurst St., and witnesses gave police the description of a car. About 15 minutes later, a robbery was reported at another liquor store, at 807 S. Euclid St., and witnesses there gave the same descriptions of the robber and car, authorities said.
Officers spotted the man leaving the area and chased his car until he stopped near Alameda Avenue and Brookhurst Street, where he fled on foot into an apartment in the complex at 2134 W. Alameda Ave.
Investigators tried to contact Sing for about four hours but he did not respond, Hunter said. Tear gas was then lobbed into the apartment, and Sing came out and was arrested without further incident. Police said they found a semiautomatic handgun outside the apartment.
