El Monte : Avila Resigns School Post
School board member Maria F. Avila, appointed May 5 to the City Council, said she will resign her school post effective May 31 to concentrate full time on her council duties.
Avila, 66, who was elected to the school board two years ago, notified the Mountain View Elementary School board of her resignation at its May 14 meeting. She will use the remaining time to confer with parents and a consultant who is preparing a report on the board’s efficiency, she said.
Avila ran April 14 for one of two open council seats and came in third. Based on her showing, the council appointed her to fill the remaining two years of the seat formerly held by Pat Wallach, who was elected mayor.
