LONG BEACH : Boy, 3, Kidnaped From Day-Care Center, Set Afire
A 3-year-old boy was snatched from his day-care center in Long Beach, driven to Watts and set on fire inside his abductor’s car, police said Tuesday.
Shortly after a passerby pulled the boy from the car--alive but badly burned--police arrested a Long Beach woman on suspicion of his kidnaping and attempted murder, Los Angeles Police Detective Ike Withers said. Belinda Crawford, 38, was being held at the Southeast Division station until her transfer to a women’s jail, Withers said.
The boy, whose name was withheld, was in guarded but serious condition at County-USC Hospital, where he was being treated for burns over 70% of his body, Withers said.
