San Dimas : Bonelli Park Transient Tax

Share

Effective July 1, overnight visitors to East Shore RV Park, a campground in Bonelli Regional County Park, will pay a 4% transient occupancy tax if they stay less than 30 days.

City Manager Bob Poff said the revenues will help pay for law enforcement services at the park. The tax is similar to what hotel customers pay.

The city code amendment was adopted Tuesday on a 3-2 vote. Councilmen Curt Morris, Denis Bertone and John Ebiner voted for the tax, but Mayor Terry Dipple and Councilman Sandy McHenry opposed it, saying the levy was unjustified.

At a May 12 public hearing, Dean Cook, owner of the recreational vehicle park, opposed the tax because he said it would increase his administrative costs by $8,000 to $10,000.

The RV park’s general manager estimated that about 10,000 campers a year will have to pay the tax. Space rental rates range from $20 to $24 a day.
