Entries are still available for a two-mile fun run and a 10K race that will be held during the U.S. Navy Seabees’ 5Oth anniversary celebration in Port Hueneme on June 6, officials said.

A round fired from a .50-caliber machine gun will start the races, which will take runners and walkers on a flat, winding course through the naval base.

The 10K race will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the two-mile fun run will start at 7:45 a.m. with the start and finish lines at the wharf, event coordinator Nancy Hanson said.

The races are open to all ages, she said.

The entry fee for each race is $15 before June 1, $18 after June 1 and the day of the race, Hanson said.

Participants will receive refreshments, a special edition T-shirt, one free ticket to the Crystal Gayle concert the day of the race, and a tour of a Navy ship before it is opened to the public, she said.

The races, sponsored by the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme and the base’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, are part of Seabee 50 Fest, which will also include Seabee demonstrations, live entertainment, a car show and food and game booths, she said.

All proceeds from the races will benefit the Navy Sports Program.
