Police Identify Victim in Holiday Double Slaying

Police on Wednesday identified one of two men shot to death over the Memorial Day weekend in a bizarre double slaying at a stop light at Bristol Street and Civic Center Drive.

A pickup truck driver and one of his passengers were shot by another passenger who then jumped into a waiting car at the stoplight and fled about 5 p.m. Monday.

The fatally wounded passenger was identified Wednesday as Jorge Fuentes Pasallo, 24, who lived in an apartment in the 1900 block of West McFadden Avenue. The driver’s identity was withheld pending notification of his family, police said.

The motive for the slayings remains a mystery, police said.

The gunman obviously had planned the shootings since a get-away car was waiting, police said. “We speculate it may have been a narcotics transaction or could have been a vendetta,” Police Lt. Robert Helton said. “We’re definitely considering drugs as a possible motive.”

Helton said investigators have found nothing linking the slayings to gang activity. He said the gunman fled in a Nissan Sentra bearing no license plates.
