Presidential Politics

My faith in pluralistic democracy is indestructible. It’s our political and economic leadership that has to be taken to school. Thank you for articles like Jonathan Peterson’s “Washing Our Hands of Politics,” May 20. The choices for President we’re offered disgust me--a Buchanan? Clinton? Bush? Perot? etc. Quayle can only spew about “family values,” a right-wing gimmick that nauseates.

We’ll have more trouble until leaders recognize that this is a democracy of and for the people and that police exist not to suppress the public but to protect and serve. I have been aghast to see the erosion of the rights of individuals and the increase of hate and fascist tendencies.

Where indeed have the jobs for the unskilled gone? To lands with almost slave labor?
