RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA MISSION VIEJO : Triathlon Will Aid Arts Center

More than 1,700 athletes from across the country are expected to compete Sunday in a triathlon to raise money for the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

The seventh annual Mazda/Orange County Performing Arts Center Triathlon begins at 7 a.m. with a 1.5-kilometer (.93 miles) swim starting at Lake Mission Viejo’s north beach, followed by a 40-kilometer (24.8 miles) bicycle ride, and 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) run through the streets of Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita.

Triathlon Closures

Roads to be closed Sunday morning for the Mazda/Orange County Performing Arts Center Triathlon are:

* Olympiad and Felipe roads, from Marguerite Parkway to Camden, closed in both directions, from 6:45 to 11:45 a.m. Alternate route--Marguerite Parkway.

* Alicia Parkway, from Santa Margarita Parkway to Olympiad Road, from 6:45 to 11:45 a.m. Alternate route--Marguerite Parkway.

* Southbound Alma Aldea, from Santa Margarita Parkway to Coto de Caza Street, from 7:45 to 10:30 a.m. Alternate routes--Avenida de los Funadores or Antonio Parkway.

* All other streets on the race course will have at least one lane open in each direction. People on their way to homes, businesses and places of worship in the area will be allowed access throughout the event, although alternate routes may have to be taken. The Lake Mission Viejo North Beach facility will be open only to pedestrian traffic until after noon.
