CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE : Cruzon Named Dean of Libraries
Susan Cruzon has been named dean of libraries at Cal State Northridge by James W. Cleary, president of the university.
Cruzon’s appointment is effective July 6. Currently, she is director of libraries for the city of Glendale. She also will be given a concurrent appointment as a tenured faculty member at the rank of librarian in the department of technical services.
Cruzon “has an outstanding academic as well as community service record and we are very happy she is joining us,” said Donald Bianchi, acting vice president of academic affairs.
Cruzon received a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Riverside, a master’s degree in library science from the University of Washington and a doctorate in public administration from USC.
At CSUN, she will oversee the Delmar T. Oviatt Library, which contains more than 1 million volumes and contains an automatic storage and retrieval system. The system, known as Leviathan II, is a model for the Library of Congress and Harvard College.
The Oviatt Library, named for the university’s first dean of instruction, opened in 1973 at a cost of $7 million. The building’s east and west wings, along with the automatic storage and retrieval system, were completed in 1991 at a cost of $15 million.
