A 13-year-old student was wounded Monday in a gang-related drive-by shooting at Patrick Henry Junior High School in Granada Hills, Los Angeles police said.
The student, whose name was not released, was grazed on the knee, Detective Bob Haro said.
The student and several other youths were standing on the athletic field shortly before 1 p.m. when a car carrying four occupants drove up, Haro said.
“They yelled out some gang slogans and one of the occupants reached out and fired one shot,” Haro said.
The bullet hit the pavement and the student was struck in the knee. Haro said it was not clear if the student was struck by a ricocheting bullet fragment or some other object.
The student, who was not known to be a gang member, was taken to Granada Hills Community Hospital, where he was treated and released, Haro said.
