And his rival didn’t spend a dime: You couldn’t blame Green Party candidate Roger Donaldson for feeling a bit blue. Running without opposition, he picked up 171 votes but finished second in his party’s primary in the 53rd Assembly District in the South Bay.

The winner? The ultimate outsider--None of the Above, a listing unique to Green Party ballots. None of the Above, which waged a quiet campaign, came up with 207 votes to keep Donaldson’s name off the ballot.

If it’s any consolation to Donaldson, just imagine how many races None of the Above would have won if the Democrats and Republicans had had the nerve to offer that alternative.

Proposition Make Believe: We thought the most provocative measure on the ballot was, unfortunately, just a mock question that appeared in the voting instructions (see photo)--mainly, whether L.A. is the world “sun and leisure capital.”

Our polls indicate that support for “Yes” fell off markedly in the last couple of months.

Speaking of make believe: Jeff Bliss of Newbury Park noticed that one side of the marquee at the Malibu Cinema Theater says: “Crop Circles Expedition Seeks $ to Contact Aliens.” It was a public interest message on behalf of a new project of the town’s still-homeless Crypto-Phenomena Museum.

The movie listed on the opposite side of the marquee, by the way, is “Far and Away.”

And if the Crop Circles Expedition doesn’t interest you: “Single, hit

writer-producer needs wealthy SF (single female),” begins the ad in the L.A. Downtown News, “for partnership to save his company. Urgent. Hollywood . . . “

Could Madonna’s bustier be in there somewhere? While the search continues for the Material Girl’s undergarment, stolen during the riots from Frederick’s of Hollywood, the Lingerie for Less chain will donate more than 2,000 used bras to the downtown L.A. Mission Women’s Center today.

The freshly laundered bras are trade-ins from customers, who received 50-cent discounts on 1992 models.

Well, a mule isn’t as much fun to draw: It wasn’t clear whether sixth-grader Gary Kazanchyan was making a political statement. But we must note that he contributed one of the impressive drawings of animals that decorated West L.A.’s Clover Avenue School, which served as a voting precinct. Gary drew an elephant, the Republican symbol.
