Album Briefs: Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four stars (excellent):

*** King’s X, “King’s X,” Atlantic. The power trio almost effortlessly combines metal riffs, progressive-rock timekeeping and structure, and slick pop choruses and harmonies. Top it off with a kind of Christian hippie love sentiment, and a young-man- Angst that for once isn’t entirely humorless, and you’ve got a real mind-melding genre-bender. It inevitably adds up to a certain bombast, but the Texas band’s fourth album is its most consistently enjoyable yet. King’s X plays the Henry Fonda Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday.
