From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Ford Recalls Vans, Sport-Utility Vehicles: Ford Motor Co. said it has added about 870,700 Aerostar vans and Ranger, Explorer and Bronco II sport-utility vehicles to a previously announced safety recall. When the vehicles’ A4LD transmissions are put in “park,” the selector levers may not take hold and the trucks could roll as if they were in neutral. The company said it knew of about 500 such incidents, some involving minor injuries and property damage but no fatalities. The recall affects certain 1989, 1990 and 1991 model Aerostars; 1990 and 1991 model Rangers; 1990 Bronco IIs and 1991 Explorers. Owners are being asked to return the vehicles to their dealers to have repairs made at no cost.
