Vivian Lance, 77, Dies; Realty Broker in Huntington Beach
Vivian Reeves Lance, a 1932 valedictorian at Huntington Beach High School who with her husband owned a beach concession stand in the city, died after suffering congestive heart failure, family members said Tuesday.
Mrs. Lance, 77, also worked as a real estate broker until a few weeks before her death.
She was past president of the Huntington Beach Assistance League and the PEO, a women’s philanthropic organization.
Lance’s activities stretched to the American Field Service and to various education programs.
Lance and her husband, Gerald, operated Lance’s Beach Concession at Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway in the late 1950s, where they rented umbrellas and sold hamburgers and malts to beach-goers.
The couple sold the business when Gerald Lance, who had been principal at Huntington Beach High School, was named superintendent of the Huntington Beach Union High School District.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lance is survived by sons G. Dennis Lance of Nevada City, Calif., and Peter of Beaverton, Ore.; daughters Kristine Lance of Santa Ana and Kathleen Lance Woolard of Huntington Beach, and four grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister, Marian Reeves Proctor of Huntington Beach, and a brother, Carlos Reeves of Redding.
Services are scheduled today at 3 p.m. at Pierce Bros.-Smiths’ Mortuary in Huntington Beach.
