A Los Angeles man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with an armed robbery of a Beach Boulevard market whose manager had given police a description of the robber’s car, police said.

A man walked into the Azteca Market at 17483 Beach Blvd. shortly before noon and asked a clerk for change for $1. When the clerk opened the change drawer, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded that the clerk fill a bag with money, said Lt. Patrick Gildea.

The clerk complied and the man turned and fled, Gildea said. The store manager, who had been working in the rear during the holdup, ran out in front in time to see the robber’s car, Gildea said.

Huntington Beach Police Officer Dave Dierking saw the alleged getaway car a few minutes later, traveling north on Gothard Street near Edinger Avenue. Police stopped the car just north of Golden West College in Westminster.

Jorge Orlando-Bojorquez Perez, 32, was arrested without incident on suspicion of armed robbery, Gildea said, and police found a gun and bag of money in the car. Perez was being held in Orange County Jail in Santa Ana.
