Rapping Ice-T: Law enforcement officials in Austin, Tex., Wednesday called for a boycott of Warner Bros. Records and Time Warner Inc. for releasing rapper Ice-T’s song “Cop Killer” on the album by his band, Body Count. “We can’t believe that people who are in the business of entertaining the public would enter into a business relationship that would jeopardize the lives of the men and women that police our communities,” said Mark Clark of the Combined Law Enforcement Assn. of Texas. Officials of Austin-based CLEAT have scheduled a news conference for today to give details of the boycott. Among the lyrics that outraged the police: “I got my 12-gauge sawed off. I got my headlights turned off. I’m ‘bout to bust some shots off. I’m ‘bout to dust some cops off.” In a statement, Time Warner said it is committed to the free expression of ideas, which is “crucial to a democratic society.”
