Some retailers are still complaining that because of its three-hour length and intimidating two-cassette package, director Oliver Stone’s “JFK” isn’t quite the rental smash it could be. Still, it jumped from No. 6 to the top spot of the Billboard magazine chart.
* “Father of the Bride” featuring Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, is a shoo-in for No. 1. It’s the kind of blockbuster hit ($88.5-million gross) that will do strong repeat business because it’s a crowd-pleasing, heartwarming comedy. It entered at No. 11 but should zoom to one of the top three spots next week.
