15-Year-Old to Graduate From Cal State L.A.

It wasn’t enough for Santosh Nandi to graduate with honors from Cal State L.A. with a dual major in biology and biochemistry. He had to do it at age 15.

When he accepts his sheepskin on Saturday, the South Pasadena youth will be the second-youngest to graduate from Cal State L.A. and the youngest of the class of ’92.

Santosh got into the college through the Early Entrance Program, which places students 14 or younger whose average IQ is 150 in full-time college courses. The 10-year-old program has 15 graduates, and 34 students are currently enrolled. Santosh is the only one scheduled to graduate this year.

Santosh rejects the notion that studious teen-agers such as himself must be bookworms or nerds. He is an Eagle Scout, a competitive swimmer and an accomplished trumpet and baritone horn player.

He will be in medical school next fall, probably at UC Irvine.
