Glendale : EPA Considers 4 Plant Sites

Share

The Environmental Protection Agency is considering four sites in Glendale for a ground-water treatment plant to battle industrial solvents that have forced closure of five of the city’s wells.

EPA spokeswoman Paula Bruin said officials have completed feasibility studies for the project. Selection of a site will take about a year, including environmental studies, public hearings and approval by the city of Glendale, as well as other agencies.

“We are going to select a site in the future, but it is not pinned down yet,” Bruin said. “We want to clean up the underground water contamination.”

All four sites are in the Grand Central industrial area near Grand View Avenue: two at San Fernando Road, and two others at Flower Street and the Los Angeles River. Three sites are owned by Glendale and the fourth by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, said Donald R. Froelich, city water services administrator.
