Perot and Buying the Presidency

Share

It is quite amusing to hear both Republican and Democratic party officials accusing Ross Perot of trying to “buy” the presidency.

Many Perot supporters consider this preferable to the current system, in which moneyed special interests, lobbies and PACs “buy” the access and influence of elected and appointed officials--through campaign contributions, gifts and the prospect of lucrative employment after their government service is over.

The broad-based public support for Perot’s unconventional presidential bid should serve as a wake-up call for the leaders of both major parties.
