BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Parrish Goes on 15-Day Disabled List

Although he hoped his injured right thumb wouldn’t keep him out of the lineup much longer, catcher Lance Parrish was put on the 15-day disabled list after Thursday’s game. Parrish took batting practice Thursday for the first time since the nail was torn off Sunday and said the thumb wasn’t overly painful. The possibility that he might have difficulty throwing led to the decision to put him on the disabled list.

John Orton, who hit .236 for triple-A Edmonton, was recalled to take Parrish’s spot on the roster. . . . Outfielder John Morris was put on the disabled list because he has gastritis. . . . Junior Felix was 0 for 4 after coming off the disabled list. . . . Chicago catcher Carlton Fisk got his first hit of the season in the fifth inning, a single to center. It looked like an old-timers’ game: Fisk, 44, got his hit off Bert Blyleven, 41. . . . Hubie Brooks, awarded first base when home plate umpire Jim McKean said he was hit by Kirk McCaskill’s pitch in the Angels’ two-run ninth-inning Wednesday night, admitted he was acting. “Broadway, here I come,” he said, acknowledging that the pitch hit his bat, not his body. “You’ve got to try everything, the way we’ve been going.”
