The Padres have signed Sean Drinkwater, an All-Atlantic Coast Conference shortstop from North Carolina State. He will report to the Padres’ Class-A team in Spokane, Wash., later this week.

Mt. Carmel’s female athlete of the year, Scia Maumausolo, signed a letter of intent to play softball next year at Cal State Northridge.

Maumausolo, a 5-9 catcher, earned 11 varsity letters at Mt. Carmel in softball (four), volleyball (three), track and field (three) and soccer (one).

This season, Maumausolo hit .554 with five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 23 runs batted in.

She recently took third in the state in the discus at the recent State Track and Field Championships.

Hilary Devine of Santa Rosa Junior College signed national letter-of-intent to swim at the University of San Diego. Devine, 20, is a Junior College All-American and captured the state championship in the 100-yard individual medley (1 minute 1.16 seconds). She also set a school record in the 50-yard backstroke (28.25).

TRACK AND FIELD

UC San Diego holds the first of three all-comers meets at Triton Stadium today at 5 p.m. All events, excluding hurdles, will be held. Entry fee is $2. The other meets are scheduled for June 19 and 26.
