Sierra Madre : Hearing on Assessments
Assessment districts, including a plan to more than double the charges for landscaping and maintenance in the central business district, will be the topic of a public hearing at the June 23 City Council meeting.
The voter-approved assessments, collected yearly by the county along with property taxes, charge property owners and businesses that directly benefit from services.
An increase in the central business district’s landscaping and maintenance assessment is proposed to cover costs of tree trimming and shaping. Parcels that were assessed at $15 last year would be assessed at $35 and those assessed at $30 are recommended for $70.
The parking district, established in May, 1991, covers the costs of energy, water, street sweeping and landscaping of the refurbished parking lots behind businesses on the south side of Sierra Madre Boulevard.
Proposed assessments have not been determined.
