Mixed Signals From Church Antenna

Share

In regard to the article “Antenna Approved for Cellular Phones” (June 4): Most of the neighborhood surrounding St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church spoke out against installing a cellular phone transmitter there. The structure is a 12-by-28-by-10-foot building with a 45-foot tower projecting over it. The people spoke, but their words fell on deaf ears at the Garden Grove Council meeting.

Maybe the landscape will be improved and made beautiful . . . or maybe not!

Maybe the $1,000-a-month rent will help St. Olaf’s pastor, Murray Finck, expand his ministry in the community . . . or maybe not!

Maybe Orange County Assessor Brad Jacobs will tax the new structure . . . or maybe not! (It is a profit-making venture.)

Maybe the church will stand to lose its nonprofit exemption because of this profit-making venture . . . or maybe not!

I believe that LA Cellular should work with the City of Garden Grove like all of the other utilities and locate a site that is suitable and beneficial to all the citizens of Garden Grove. Not just one church.

In the interest of being a good neighbor, Pastor Finck could tell LA Cellular to find a different location.
