NORTH HILLS : Driver Dies as Car Tumbles Off Road

Share

A speeding motorist was killed after he lost control of his car and tumbled down an embankment on the San Diego Freeway in North Hills, authorities said Monday.

Marc Holguin, 22, of Sylmar was driving south on the freeway near Roscoe Boulevard about 11:45 p.m. Friday when he changed lanes to pass another car, California Highway Patrol Officer Reggie Julius said. But Holguin, who was apparently driving between 80 and 90 m.p.h., veered off the west edge of the road and his car flipped several times down the embankment, Julius said.

Holguin’s car then tumbled across the freeway’s southbound on-ramp and continued rolling down the embankment until it smashed into a tree. Holguin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car, Julius said.
