Countywide : Car Chase Ends With Man’s Arrest
A 31-year-old Woodland Hills man suspected of drunk driving led police on an early morning car chase Tuesday that spanned two counties and only ended when he stopped suddenly at the Santa Clara River Bridge.
California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop David Ulbrich after observing him driving erratically on De Soto Avenue in Northridge about 4:30 a.m., CHP Officer Todd Wonders said.
Ulbrich eluded the San Fernando Valley-based CHP officers as they pursued his car out of Northridge at speeds exceeding 80 m.p.h., Wonders said.
Local law enforcement began giving chase just after 5 a.m. when Ulbrich sped into Ventura County on California 118 near Simi Valley, CHP Officer T.J. McAllister said.
Ventura County-based CHP officers entered the fray as the chase continued through the county, winding through Moorpark and continuing toward the Santa Clara River Bridge, McAllister said.
Ulbrich ran into a ditch near Bradley Road--just outside Somis--and blew out his front left tire, but continued driving, McAllister.
As officers closed in, Ulbrich came to an abrupt stop at about 5:25 a.m. at the Santa Clara River Bridge and surrendered voluntarily, McAllister said.
He was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and evading law enforcement officers, McAllister said.
