Trapped Coyotes Were Rabies-Free

Share

Three coyotes trapped and killed in the Forster Ranch area in the past two weeks were free of rabies, according to the County Health Agency.

Officials began trapping and testing the coyotes after a rash of attacks in the area. On May 16, a 5-year-old girl was bitten and scratched as she played in her back yard, and numerous pets have been reported missing or killed.

The girl underwent preventive rabies treatment.

Since animal control officials set traps in the canyons surrounding the housing tract earlier this month, three adult coyotes have been snared. All three were put to death by lethal injection and sent to the health department for rabies testing.

Officials say the trappings will continue until coyote attacks in the neighborhoods cease to be a major problem.
