What to do for Father’s Day? If it’s breakfast in bed or even something fancier--say, a champagne brunch overlooking the ocean--there’s still plenty of time in the afternoon and evening to show your appreciation to the man of the house.

If he’s into music--and we’re talking Big Band, jazz or even bluegrass--but is stingy with the dime, you’re still in luck. Today, he gets his choice--and it doesn’t cost the family a thing.

If he’s partial to big bands, take him to El Segundo and enjoy an afternoon concert in the park performed by Center Stage, the Air Force’s show band. This 20-piece band will play its contemporary jazz and Big Band sound for free, beginning at 2 p.m. in Library Park at the corner of Main Street and Mariposa Avenue.

The performance is the first in a series of seven concerts at the park throughout the summer presented by the El Segundo Recreation and Parks Department to commemorate the city’s 75th birthday.

If Dad is more into the bluegrass sound, then head over to the Polliwog Park Amphitheatre in Manhattan Beach for an evening performance by the L.A. Fiddle Band. These folk musicians will play from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for free in the outdoor amphitheater at 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd.

This performance is part of the Manhattan Beach Recreation Department’s “Concerts in the Park” series, featuring live shows every Sunday through Aug. 9.
