Perot OKs Deposition on POW-MIA Issue

WASHINGTON — Ross Perot, who abruptly decided against testifying before a Senate committee this month on the plight of missing U.S. servicemen from the Vietnam War, will submit a deposition on the subject, the committee chairman said Sunday.
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) told “NBC Nightly News” that Perot, the still undeclared independent presidential candidate who has pursued Vietnam POW and MIA causes since 1969, agreed to appear for a deposition but still not for a public hearing. Kerry is chairman of the Senate Select Committee on POW-MIA Affairs.
Perot had been scheduled to testify June 30, but he wrote the committee last Monday to say he had changed his mind because of “the politically charged atmosphere.”
