SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Start Dates for Schools Announced

Share

The Los Angeles Unified School District has announced school starting dates for the academic year beginning July 1. The schedule is similar to that of last year, when all 625 schools in the district converted to a year-round calendar. A recently proposed plan to change the schedule again to accommodate a shortened school year and to save money for the cash-strapped district has been shelved.

The first day of school for campuses under the year-round calendar is Tuesday, Aug. 18. Students on Track A in multitrack schools, where children attend class on staggered schedules, also will start Aug. 18.

Youngsters on tracks B, C and D at multitrack schools will begin school on Monday, July 6.

Eight elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley will have different schedules from the norm because educators at those schools decided to shorten their school year in exchange for longer school days. Camellia Avenue, Langdon Avenue, Morningside, Noble Avenue, Plummer, Roscoe, Van Nuys and Victory boulevard elementary schools will operate on a Concept 6 schedule or a modified version of Concept 6. Under Concept 6 calendars, schools have three tracks of students rather than four. On these campuses, tracks B and C will start school on Wednesday, July 1. Students in Track A will begin classes either Monday, Aug. 3, or Wednesday, Aug. 26, depending on the school.
