LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Bank Posts $50,000 Reward to Catch Team of Robbers

A group of bank robbers dubbed the “Hole in the Wall Gang” because of their approach to crime has a price on its head--a $50,000 reward posted Tuesday by the Bank of America.

In a news conference with the FBI, Bank of America officials said they decided to offer the reward for information leading to the bandits’ arrest and conviction because they have successfully evaded surveillance in five armed takeovers of former Security Pacific branches in Los Angeles and San Diego counties since Oct. 4. Those branches are part of the Bank of America’s network after the firms’ merger.

FBI agents started calling the outlaws the “Hole in the Wall Gang” because of the way the group gains access to bank branches through the walls or roofs before they open.
