ALBANY, N.Y. — Tracy Harris Patterson, adopted son of former heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson, stopped champion Thierry Jacob of France in the second round to win the World Boxing Council super-bantamweight title Tuesday night.
It made the Pattersons the sport’s first father and son to win championships. The elder Patterson proclaimed Tracy’s victory “the proudest moment of my life.”
“This is the best I’ve ever seen him,” said Floyd, the two-time champion who is his son’s manager and trainer.
Patterson (45-2) hammered Jacob (38-4) with a half-dozen rights at the end of the first round, including two in the closing seconds, and finished off the 27-year-old left-hander with a right 50 seconds into the second round.
Jacob took the title from Daniel Zaragoza of Mexico in March.
