LAGUNA HILLS : Skating Restrictions Get Preliminary OK

Share

The City Council gave preliminary approval this week to changes that would strengthen city laws prohibiting skateboarding, roller-skating and bicycling in specified areas.

With the changes approved Tuesday, skateboarding and roller-skating will be prohibited on all public roads except cul-de-sac streets shorter than 500 feet. The city will also start taking steps such as posting signs and putting notices in newspapers when skateboarding, roller-skating or bicycling will be prohibited on public property.

Such activities would still be allowed on public sidewalks unless specifically posted otherwise, officials said.

In other action, the council unanimously approved a new one-year contract with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to provide police services in the city. With the new $2.7-million 1992-93 contract, the Sheriff’s Department will add more patrol and traffic officers to the streets. The new agreement becomes effective Wednesday.
