YORBA LINDA : Fines, Rental Costs to Go Up at Library

Share

Come Wednesday, it will cost a bit more to return a late or damaged book, replace a lost library card or rent the community room at the Yorba Linda Public Library.

The City Council last week approved a new rate schedule that doubles fines for overdue materials and lost library cards and sets an hourly rate for renting the 200-capacity community meeting room in the new building at 18181 Imperial Highway.

Patrons who return books, magazines and audiotapes late will be charged 20 cents a day up to a maximum of $10, an increase from a 10-cent daily charge and a $5 maximum. Overdue videotapes will carry a fine of $2 a day, up from $1.

Patrons who lose books and tapes must pay the cost of the item plus a processing charge, which went up from $2 to $5. A $2 fine will be charged for lost magazines and pamphlets. Replacing lost library cards will cost 50 cents, up from 25 cents.

Use of the community room by resident, nonprofit groups will now cost $5 per hour; the $15 flat rate will be eliminated. Also, resident youth groups that used to enjoy unlimited free use of the room will now be allowed only one free use per month, with the $5 hourly fee charged for additional uses.

Businesses will be charged $15 an hour for use of the room.
